Renowned economist Bismarck Rewane recently highlighted Nigerians’ sentiments concerning the federal government’s budget, emphasizing that citizens are primarily concerned about the tangible impact on the prices of essential commodities like rice, bread, and garri.
Speaking on Thursday, November 30, after President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the proposed N27.5 trillion 2024 budget to the National Assembly, Rewane articulated that Nigerians prioritize the practical effects of the budget over its technical details. While the budget emphasized macro-economic stability, poverty alleviation, and increased access to social security, Rewane stressed that citizens’ real interest lies in the reduction of prices for staple goods.
He expressed the sentiment that while budgetary calculations and economic statistics hold academic significance, their relevance to the average Nigerian hinges on the everyday impact on household expenses.
