President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, yesterday, charged the police to stop killing peaceful protesters but rather eliminate bandits.
He further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to talk to some critical issues in the country and address the protesters.
He says, “With the unconfirmed reports putting the casualty at over 40 within two days of managing the EndHunger protest across the country, we have sufficient reasons, backed by reports and video clips, to question their professionalism in our security personnel. This represents nothing but a massacre of citizens.”.
He added, “Had the security personnel turned the same brutal precision against bandits or other criminals, our country would have been an eldorado. As the lead agency in internal security management, the police bear the burden of this massacre....[CONTINUE READING HERE ▶▶]
According to Ajaero, the case of the Kaduna police command, under Commissioner of Police Audu Ali Dabigi, was even worse. He narrated how a fleeing protester, caught on camera, was appealing to the police not to shoot, when his voice was drowned by gunfire, which killed the protester and injured many others.

In contrast to this, Ajaero wrote in commendation of the Edo State Police Command, led by COMPOL Funsho Adegboroye, who he noted had shown quite a different approach in crowd control. Adegboroye related with protesters and calmed them.
Ajaero thus insisted, “While it is understandable that the socio-cultural contexts are different between the states, an undisputed fact common to all is that human life is sacred and should never be taken.”
