Unknown gunmen on Friday, attacked a police checkpoint at Omata Junction on the Nnewi-Oba Road in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident occurred around 9:20 am when the assailants threw explosive devices at the police operatives stationed at the checkpoint.
According to reports, the attack resulted in the death of one police officer and left another seriously injured. The injured officer is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement.
He said the State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has launched an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators, with operations led by the Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Nnewi Area Command....[CONTINUE READING HERE ▶▶]
According to him, the police are collaborating with residents to identify and apprehend the attackers.
Ikenga assured that the police had taken control of the area and emphasized that further details would be provided as the situation developed.
This attack adds to a series of violent incidents in Anambra State, including recent kidnappings and assaults on local government facilities.
