2 APC Politicians That Atiku May Not Defeat In 2023 Election

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a top politician in the country, but there are at least two top or key politicians of the APC that the former vice president couldn't defeat if they face each other in the next presidential election. The former number two citizen of the country would not be able to wade off the challenges of the two politicians.

Recall that Atiku Abubakar contested against incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and he lost to the president. At least it was clear that Atiku Abubakar would always come second whenever he engages in a political race against Muhammadu Buhari. And that means he can't defeat the president.

Both Buhari and Atiku Abubakar have met at least two times in a competitive election. They faced each other in the primary election of the APC for the 2015 presidential election. And it was Buhari who was favoured by the delegates who voted for the aspirants. Buhari defeated Atiku Abubakar in 2019 as well.

But there are at least three more politicians that the former vice president would always be trailing. The APC politicians are clearly discussed in this article.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has spread his political network far beyond the southwest region. His relevance and presence can be conspicuously seen in other regions including the south-south and southeast geopolitical zones. He has allies who hold political posts and offices. If both Atiku and Tinubu compete in the southern region, definitely, the former Lagos State governor would coast home victory.

Outside the southern region, Bola Tinubu is still relevant. He has his close allies in the far northern region of the country. The former Lagos State governor who is also a national leader of the APC can cash in on the support of top northern politicians including Umar Ganduje, Babagana Zulum, Aliyu Wamakko, Kashim Shettima among other top northern leaders.

Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu have not really competed against each other in any election. But the two have done some things before. Atiku struggled to get the APC ticket in 2014 so as to run for the presidency in 2015. But Tinubu showed his political prowess by supporting Muhammadu Buhari for the ticket. Eventually, Atiku Abubakar lost in the race. So, the former vice president may not be able to stop Tinubu.

The second politician that the former vice president may not be able to defeat is Rotimi Amaechi. The former governor of Rivers State has established himself firmly in the All Progressives Congress to the extent that he takes an active role in the decision making of the APC.

Both Atiku and Amaechi left the People's Democratic Party in 2014 following the gradual falling of the PDP which faced numerous internal challenges. The party lost both Amaechi and Atiku Abubakar that year. But while Atiku has returned to the PDP, Rotimi Amaechi is still in the APC.

Amaechi took part in how the APC defeated the PDP in 2015 and 2019. He led the APC campaign committee at the national level and worked round the clock to make sure that his former political camp was removed from power. As the campaign leader of the APC, he drew and executed plans to deal with the PDP.

It shouldn't be surprising that President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Rotimi Amaechi as a minister in his cabinet in 2015 and he reappointed the former governor in 2019 after the APC recorded victory in the two elections. Amaechi is now a top minister in the cabinet of Muhammadu Buhari.

In a nutshell, if Atiku Abubakar faces Mr. Rotimi Amaechi in any presidential election, it would be extremely tough for Atiku to win the election.
